Whoever I meet, they always ask the same question - "How can I control my mind?" Although this question itself is not correct. The question should be something like "Why does the mind wander?" If we can find out the reason why the mind wanders, we will automatically gain knowledge of how to control it.
Now, let's see why the mind wanders. The main reason for its wandering and instability is its constant hunger. It is unsatisfied in some way or the other, and lacks contentment.
If we can satisfy the mind, it will definitely become stable. Because as long as any being is unsatisfied, there will always be instability within them. Forcibly trying to stabilize the mind is never possible.
There are only two reasons why the mind becomes unsatisfied. The first reason is that it does not have knowledge of its own needs. It doesn't know what it actually needs.
The second reason is that the senses and body are not cooperating with it. The mind and senses have become accustomed to living in a state of tension.
To satisfy the mind, it is necessary to understand what it needs. What is its actual requirement? If it doesn't have a clear understanding of its own needs, it cannot attain peace.
When one has knowledge of their fundamental needs, they should contemplate the means to attain them. It is important to note that to obtain these means, you also need to keep your body, senses, mind, and intellect healthy. If all these means are not healthy, the mind will naturally be agitated.
One should strive to keep their five senses relaxed. For this, it is necessary to be in contact with an experienced guru. When the senses become relaxed, the mind becomes naturally calm and stable. When the mind is calm and stable, self-satisfaction increases.
Yoga, pranayama, dharana, meditation, etc., are many means that lead towards the process of contentment. Therefore, one should try to practice all of these under the guidance of a spiritual guru and strive to keep their life disciplined.
When the important organs of the body and senses are constantly under stress, after a few years, they tend to develop a habit of being under stress automatically. Even if the mind does not desire stress, the senses and brain disturb the mind with their wrong patterns. Being under stress in a specific part of the body also causes problems in other areas of the body.
Therefore, one should always be aware of their needs and strive to fulfill them through the means that promote peace and contentment.
