Why Do You Want To Control ?

Why Do You Want To Control Someone?

Why do we want to control someone? When the mind finds it difficult to fulfil its desires forever, it thinks that only after getting the desired object, the desires will be completely calm. Instead of going into depth of things, it thinks that the sole way to satisfy itself is to consume things or achieve material things. You will see most people in wild pursuit of things, blindly running after money and materialistic things.

It is very difficult to estimate the extent of shocks the mind, senses and body gets in order to achieve the desired object. In these turmoils, the person gets so much unhappiness that he feels helpless and as a result, he hopes for some immaterial being. He feels that this non-material power will fulfil his desires. This is why in order to make the self happy, his inner mind tries to find a way that can control things or someone through the power of the concentration of the mind.

In the process, the mind starts weaving dreams, thoughts and fantasies that are highly imaginative and somewhat intoxicating. Man always tries hard to control one's senses and mind but in vain, to compensate for the same guilt, the conscience tries to create a pretence to control another.

Let us understand this with the help of an example-

In my early days, while meditating, I used to practise meditation for a few hours by focusing on the image of some great gurus who are no longer in this world. The main aim of meditation was to invite them toward me. To get powers from them. Finding peace from them etc. After a few minutes of meditation, there used to be a lot of excitement, it would have seemed that I had just established a connection with them.

However, after a few years, I began experiencing constant heaviness in the head, tension and burning in the eyes along with signs of reflux. This was because the more excitement was created in the mind to connect with those gurus, the more stretching started in the body, in the stomach, in the breath, in the intestines and inside the head. This stretch continued for hours, days and years.

The mind would be so focussed on the image of the guru that it would not pay attention to the mishappening of the body. This was probably the reason why the senses and the body used to get very tired due to momentary stimuli in sadhna and within a few months and years, those problems took a serious turn.

Sadhak can get himself out of this self-made spider web by trying to give up the illusion that he can control anyone. What can be controlled is one's own mind, senses and body, one must focus on that instead.

Remember, sadhna and dhyan must always be done under the strict supervision of a knowledgeable and wise guru. Such forms of sadhna wherein the mind is made to aggressively focus on images, et cetera must be practised with great care lest it gives rise to a host of troubles.
