The term “वात” (Vata) here refers not only to the traditional Ayurvedic concept of “Vata” (one of the three doshas, or energies) but is also compared to the environment or atmosphere. Just like the air around us is in constant motion, Vata represents a dynamic force in the body that governs movement, circulation, and flow. The passage suggests that even though this energy is always active, we may not always notice its presence.
The idea of an “air-conditioned body” (वातानुकूलित देह) highlights the concept of balance. In the same way that an air conditioner regulates temperature to maintain a comfortable environment, when the body’s Vata is balanced, the individual experiences a state of ease and satisfaction. In this state, the mind is calm, the body functions smoothly, and there is an overall sense of well-being.
The phrase “‘मैं’ पूर्णतः संतुष्ट और कष्टरहित रहता है” (“the self remains completely satisfied and free from discomfort”) emphasizes that when Vata is harmonized, we naturally feel content and free from physical or mental distress.
However, when there is an imbalance (such as disease or discomfort), the passage suggests that this harmony can be restored through yoga, pranayama (breath control), and meditation. These practices help re-establish the balance of the body’s internal environment, which had been disturbed. They bring the body back to a “conditioned” or optimal state.
Food plays a supportive role in this process of healing, but it is stressed that external remedies like herbs or medicines may not provide a permanent solution. The true and lasting solution comes from creating and maintaining good coordination between the body and its protector (which can be understood as the mind, spirit, or inner consciousness).
In summary:
• Vata represents the body’s dynamic and unseen energy, much like the moving air in the environment.
• A balanced “air-conditioned body” brings comfort, health, and contentment.
• Practices like yoga, pranayama, and meditation restore balance when disturbed.
• Although food and herbs help, the lasting solution comes from a deeper, inner harmony between body and mind.
