The Subtle Secret of Kapalbhati

The Subtle Secret of Kapalbhati

Generally, people give immense importance to exercising the body, especially the limbs. The science of asana and yoga on the other hand studies the importance of physical activity and its relation with the body in much detail. The focus here becomes the backbone. Backbone harbours the spinal cord which is the mother of our nervous system as all nerves stem from it, therefore, a stiff backbone or smallest of issues to it may wreak havoc on parts of the body in ways unimaginable.

In my experience I found that by creating tension in the joints of the spine, an attempt is made to bring mind and consciousness to the nerves. Through this, the mind is able to reach the places of the subtlest joints of the body, but after a limit, the development of the practitioner stops.

Then a person is not able to reach the senses of the smallest joints. In order for the mind to reach the senses, emphasis was laid on the practice of pranayama. Here going to the sense organs means reaching those five senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin) through the practice of pranayama.

Pranayama science gives a lot of importance to Kapalbhati kriya. If I try to understand the depth of this Pranayama, then I would not like to call it Pranayama. In its practice, tension is created through voice from the throat to the front of the nostrils. In this, with the help of the breath, the sound has to be created while exhaling the breath.

Note, that by exhaling with a jerky sound, tension is created from the throat to the inner part of the nostrils. This tension is done through the breath itself, and it is so subtle that the practitioner does not even feel the tension. He is practising as a pranayama, but the basic truth is that in this process the emphasis is on exhaling instead of emphasising on breathing in. It is natural that the emphasis is on exhaling instead of increasing inhalation.

When an attempt is made to extract sound from the nose and throat through breathing, it is natural for heat to arise in that entire area. Tingling is produced by the blow of breath and through the sound in the entire parts of the skin from the throat to the inside of the nose. This is a kind of subtle practice of the skin inside the throat from the nose, through which an attempt is made to generate heat and heat.

Since this entire inner region (from nose to throat) is very sensitive and its intimate relationship with the brain and senses is intricate, when heat is created in this part, the access of the mind to the brain increases. If heat is created in this inner region, then many problems related to the brain and senses can be avoided.

Many people lay unnecessary exertion on their throat or nose, some even have a nasal tone. There are also people who have excessive humidity in the passage from the nose to the throat, due to which there are problems in the movement of breath. Although it would have been natural to have humidity in this place, but if there is excessive humidity and wetness in this place, then the sinus area also starts getting affected gradually. Many diseases like migraine, headache start cropping up. These problems can be solved by practising Kapalbhati.

It is also worth noting here that in the practice of Kapalbhati, some people cross such limits that they eliminate the humidity of the inner part from the throat to the nose, this gives rise to many side effects. Therefore, it is necessary to take the help of an experienced guru in the practice of pranayama.
