The spiritual secret of sleep
In order to understand the intricate link between sleep and spirituality, let us divide our life into two segments - day and night; light and darkness. When we talk about our brain, it is divided into the left (day) and the right (night). One spurs action, the other one is called the 'resting' phase. One side is full of activity while the other one has a lack of it.
Think of it, in one state, the self has complete knowledge of self and the outside world, in another, it is completely detached from it. The latter is the state of deep sleep. It is said when in deep sleep, the soul and nature or body (prakriti) becomes one.
The truth, however, is that both soul and the body (nature) relentlessly try to detach from one another. Soul gets tired of experiencing the ravages of the material world and vice versa. They both try to get away from one another, for a while they try to be situated in their original nature to satisfy themselves, separating themselves to a certain extent from each other.
It must be noted that the healing of nature (body and mind) starts in itself, it does not require any external healing. Here, the consciousness, i.e. the soul, also separates itself from the body and becomes calm and stable. It gets rid of the hassle of running away.
This state of separation between the mind and body manifests in the form of deep sleep or is also achieved in the form of meditation. This is why every living being is always very eager to go into this deep state. When the healing is complete, a person wakes up on his/her. Mind you, this phase of detachment is such that coming back together is possible, like a natural process.
Those who get deep sleep wake up happy, energetic, and stay agile the entire day. You must be thinking, why is there a sense of happiness in this momentary separation of consciousness and nature? This is because the biggest sense in the body, touch, gets time for healing during this period. For example, when a person overeats and experiences stomach discomfort, the experience is tangible, one that can be felt and involves the sense of touch. In a state of deep, the body shuts down its ability to experience, therefore, the sense of touch gets a break and time to heal.
Nature's sole message is to not disturb its rhythm, it has great ability to heal itself. Human (soul) and prakriti (body) rest for a few hours and rise again to a new dawn, as if they were born again.
