The Reason Behind Overeating

Not only in the path of yoga but also in regular life, overeating and eating too frequently are not only harmful to the body but also to the mind. Our objective here is not to discuss the harmful effects but to understand the reasons behind overeating and excessive eating.

In my own experience, one of the main reasons for overeating is excessive talking and the suppression of emotions. When a person suppresses emotions and talks excessively, they tend to intake and hold emotions inside too much. This emotional suppression leads to imbalanced eating patterns as an attempt to cope with these suppressed emotions. Consequently, they may also start speaking rapidly and breathe out more rapidly, resulting in a lack of oxygen in the brain, leading to decreased energy levels.

Moreover, people who have a habit of excessively suppressing emotions and talking often drink less water, which further quickens their pace of eating, leading to indigestion and a feeling of bloating. This, in turn, creates tension in the brain and makes individuals feel the need to repeatedly put something in their stomachs, leading to frequent eating habits and even the development of overeating habits.

Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to the fact that when one eats too often or overeats, the digestive system is continuously engaged in the process of digestion, involving not only the liver and intestines but also other vital organs in the body, such as the heart. After meals, the brain slows down a bit because it is actively involved in the essential process of digestion, and as a result, many people tend to feel sleepy after eating. This drowsiness is caused by the brain's center responsible for digestion becoming active.

In conclusion, understanding the reasons behind overeating and excessive eating, such as emotional suppression and excessive talking, can help individuals adopt healthier eating habits and improve their overall well-being, both physically and mentally.
