The Impact of Breaking Routine on Mind & Body

In my observation, changes in thoughts and body have been observed in people who strictly follow a routine. Staying in the same circumstances or situations is seen to have increased stress in people. The mind gets bored by repeating the same events. Doing the same work every day offers no exhilaration, rather, makes life mundane. It feels that the juice of life is gone.

Getting a job at a young age is a goal, then repetition does not matter because the goal is to be achieved. After getting a job, one has to marry, then have children and after a while, a person gets stuck at a point wondering what comes next.

After seeing and doing the same things every single day, every event starts to look like a very boring process. When the same thoughts run continuously in the mind every day, the brain also starts getting bored and tired and starts casting its side effects on the body.

Note that this rule also applies to food. By eating plain and sattvic or the same kind of Rajasic and Tamasic food every day, the functional aspect of the mind and body starts getting weakened. The satisfaction that the mind gets is almost the same every day. It would get used to that satisfaction. Note that if a person who is accustomed to eating tamasic food changes his food in the future, he will go for some tamasic food only instead of sattvic food. A tea drinker will change and go for another source of caffeine, that is, coffee. Most people only get trapped in this loop and end up making a negative change.

During an experiment on naturopaths, I found that their constant eating of the same type of sattvic food weakened the body's immunity. The immune system of the body and mind was greatly reduced. That is why a lot of diseases are found in many naturopaths. Their focus is only on food and juices as if physical health is limited to specific taste glands.

When a person tries to break his routine, the order of similar types of thoughts inside him is also broken and at the same time along with the order of food. All the senses which were getting the same kind of things now change.

The breakdown of all these daily routines activates the other part of the brain which could not be used all this while. Now, the mind has new experiences and begins to thrive. I have seen that when the situation changes, a lot of people get rid of the heaviness in the head in their routine, hyperacidity or body pain.

Looking at the nomadic nature of the early sages, one can see how much they must have benefited from their practice of relocation. They used to encounter people of different natures which helped them understand themselves and the innermost of individuals. However, it is also true that constant wandering increases the chances of developing physical ailments, even sages used to stay in one place during the rainy season. But here we are talking about short-term leave and change of routine to keep the mind and body fresh.

That is why I am in favour of a change in diet and never recommend doing the same type of compound action. I insist on changing it in days and months so that the effects can be seen in different parts of the brain and spinal cord. This increases the source of satisfaction for the mind and body as well as the immunity to fight diseases.
