Should We Practice Pranayama While Taking A Leisure Walk ?
In my opinion, multitasking is extremely dangerous for the brain. Initially, the ability to multitask may bring rapture and extreme satisfaction however, as time goes by it may often lead to distraction.
I have heard many people suggest practising pranayama while walking. Whenever our body is engaged in any activity, the various body parts and organs automatically assume a rhythm. When a person runs, his/her heart, lungs, speed of breathing, all come in sync, like a rhythm. When we are engaged in physical activity, we are focused on our muscles, how the muscles expand and contract. This rhythm acts like a balm to the mind, it soothes and calms it.
In any physical exercise, the stretching of the muscles leads to a relaxed mind and when the mind is relaxed, it puts the body in a healing mode. Think about this, during pranayama, our attention is not to the external muscles, but only to the rhythm of the lungs. By focussing on breathing, we relax the muscles and work our lungs. Practising pranayama during any physical practice is to obstruct the movement of prana.
Whatever change is happening inside the lungs with more practice is natural and at the same time obstructing that movement by doing pranayama can be dangerous. In my opinion, while doing any physical activity, even during a leisure walk, focusing on the breath is something that can lead to more damage than any good. Lungs will retaliate to an extent that it makes your brain system diseased.
Things to remember
At the time of physical exercise, attention should be paid to the continuity of motion
Pay attention to the parts of the body where tension is being felt
Try to relax the eyes while walking, if the eyes and the forehead are loose and tension-free, then thoughtlessness arises very soon
Too much enthusiasm, hyper-walking or any physical exercise is prohibited. This type of activity may calm the mind for a while but later it can be a cause of anxiety.
Do not increase the range of motion too much, do not be too hyper
One must drink water before and after the walk or any physical activity, drinking should be done slowly
A lot of benefits can be gained by doing pranayama after any physical exercise. This brings high blood pressure under control
If you want to avoid being hit by thoughts then experiences must be obstructed
