When the brain gets used to the process of thinking from any one point of view, then it does not take long to go towards depression. The mind, brain and the senses know only one way, it has no knowledge of any other approach to calm itself, otherwise, it has become a pattern of its brain. It becomes used to the same pattern of thinking. Although the brain does not accept any other pattern as quickly. Probably that is why such people have to live with the help of medicines for the rest of their life.
In my own experience, the solution is there but requires a little understanding and practice. That pattern can be removed consciously or it can be removed through concentration. I insist on using both of these methods.
Here I am trying to give some specific experiential advice to remove the pattern of thinking.
Whenever there is trouble with a particular pattern of thinking, the senses should be engaged in some physical and mental activity to remove that pattern.
It is beneficial to walk in times of overthinking. The thoughts affect the brain and due to this there is an unnecessary increase in his heart rate if at that time one starts practising any physical activity, then the heart rate which was increasing due to thinking now increases due to physical exercise. By this action, self-confidence comes back. This process also eliminates the side effects of that pattern on the thoughts.
When mental activities increase the speed of the heart and lungs, then instability in the circulation of oxygen in the blood also starts. Due to this, many glands of the brain cause their hormones to enter the blood in an unbalanced way. This is the reason that at the time of depression, one should forcefully focus his concentration on some other subject. This breaks the pattern of thoughts in the brain and the mind has more control over the subtle fibres of the brain.
Thinking is a habit. A person with the nature of depression brings such intensity to his thinking that in a moment his thoughts spread inside the whole body and start giving side effects. The science of Hatha Yoga says that the practice of asanas, the spine can be made so powerful that the thoughts coming from the brain do not immediately cause negative side effects in the body. When the body parts are not affected by its negative thinking, then the brain automatically calms down in a short time.
After a few months of practice of asanas, the cells of the spine and brain become so strong and calm that they refuse to accept even the thoughts coming from outside. Only the necessary thoughts are allowed to be accepted, that is because those thoughts are only for the fulfilment of their needs.
In the science of yoga, the method of doing asanas should be understood deeply - how much is enough, when should it be done or stopped, whether the breath should be used in it or not. All this should be prescribed by an experienced guru so that the entire nervous system can be deeply calmed down and healed.
Pranayama is also very important. The monkey mind can be stabilised by the practice of pranayama. This can get rid of doubtful thoughts. The movement, control, rhythm, kumbhaka and experience in it, all together calm the mind very intensely.
