There are two types of conversations, one that we do with others and the other that we carry out within ourselves. Excess of both is injurious to health. When we converse with others, various parts of the body are involved, such as face, mouth, eyes, jaw, tongue and hands. In an adverse situation, a person tends to overuse these parts which leads to exhaustion. Stress and anxiety lead to innumerable diseases, stressful conversations, whether with people or internally, may lead to ailments and diseases.
Internal conversations or dialogue are usually carried out by the means of imagination and are equally disturbing and exhausting. The mind has to go through a lot to think and imagine and get into the process of internal conversation. Undeniably, internal conversations are way too taxing on the brain and the body. When a person feels restless at night and unable to relax and sleep, it is because of this excessive internal dialogue.
This internal dialogue does not stop here, it travels to the world of dreams. Excessive overthinking and internal dialogue impacts the throat region and may trigger the problem of thyroid which is extremely common in women.
Even the devotees are prone to such internal dialogue, they converse with the gods and goddesses. Too much overthinking and internal dialogue can cause headaches, sleep issues, anxiety and even depression. In fact, people battling depression or other mental health issues are seen to be more susceptible to overthinking and getting into an internal dialogue
Take note, that such internal dialogue and imagination take such a big form that a person's identity gets crushed. Don't let your beliefs and thoughts consume or crush you, but this is exactly what happens with people who are prone to excessive internal dialogue, they tend to believe that what they think and imagine is the reality and, in the process, get detached with the actual reality.
The more powerful the mind makes a person in imagination and self-made conversation, the more his own personality becomes weak and hollow.
When that self-made element is hit by some outsiders, then either the person goes into depression or becomes violent. That is why Indian spiritual sages emphasised the practice of quieting the mind and silencing such internal dialogue. Until there is no inner silence, the problems of this body and the mind will never be solved nor the issues of this society.
