How To Remain Centred & Productive In Adverse Situations
In our daily lives, we are met with several situations which are adverse because of no particular reason and have no specific solution. They come and get resolved on their own in a matter of time. Most of them arise due to the momentary instability of a person's behaviour or emotions. It is precisely why we are told to detach from the situations and not get much affected by them.
In that critical situation, this is the only remedy to pacify the mind, intellect, senses etc.
When we are met with extremely adverse and challenging situations, then it is futile to go in-depth and mull over the root cause of the problem. The only way through and out of the situation is to adopt a zen state and steer our mind and senses into a state of nothingness - a big zero.
Simply put, the only way to deal with challenges is by remaining calm, neutral and letting the storm pass while not trying to fight back or react. Otherwise, one must abandon the situation altogether. It is not wise to remain in the situation and fret or keep on reacting about what is and what should or should have been. This remedy is considered better for those problems which are never possible to solve.
To be able to maintain a calm head like this is, in its own way, a huge feat and sadhna because when all our senses are busy fighting with the challenge, it is not easy to keep the mind centred, calm and free from the whirlwind of emotions. Everyone must try this exercise at least once in their life.
Sometimes children just keep listening to the scolding of their parents and remain unaffected from inside. They accustom themselves. This type of experiment is often seen between a couple. This experiment can be done by the person in a normal and familiar situation.
On the flip side, when a person applies the same exercise in an adverse or challenging situation, it leads to great evolution of the mind. One must try the same with work and official situations as well.
In my opinion, this type of sadhana is the best, a person is a sadhak in a way when he is able to detach himself from the blows of the challenges and situations that he is facing. What is the point of arriving at a solution when the process has already impacted a person's emotions, mind and health?
What to do in face of adversity?
1) Do not let senses do a lot of activity. Try to maintain a calm head and watch your actions, reactions and words. Talk in a calm manner with the other person, you will avoid getting into an aggressive situation this way. Try to maintain seriousness in your eyes, stay calm and centred.
2) At the time of an adverse event, keep the eyes there but try to lead the mind towards emptiness. Directly and indirectly, everyone uses this technique in their daily activities, but if it is practised in a knowledgeable way, then the mind begins to calm down.
3) If the heart rate increases too much then try to feel the breath, in a short time everything will be normal. The circulation of blood and oxygen in the body and the brain will be balanced.
4) Try to face the situation, your heart rate will stabilize after increasing in a while.
5) One of the most important things - do not skip your daily routine amid challenges. Continue with your daily activities, exercise, yog, sadhna and meditation. It will help in clearing out the clutter from your mind and recharge you. Keep yourself positive and normal as much as you can, it will not be easy but you will realise that it will increase your strength manifold.
6) By providing a routine to the mind, there is no shortage of power, as a result, the mind becomes more powerful.
7) Try to apply this logic when faced with good or positive situations as well so that the mind and the emotions are not swept away in happiness, rather keep centred.
