How To Fight With Diseases

Determination & Consistency To Fight Diseases

In years of my practice, one thing that I can vouch for is the fact that faith, determination and consistency can move mountains. When it comes to fighting diseases or simply preventing them, it is willpower and determination that do the trick besides potions, medicines, diet, et cetera.

What else is it, if not willpower and determination, that make a person disciplined? In Ayurveda and Indian culture, a great amount of significance is given to discipline and stoicism. A person who sticks to a routine is known to resist temptations, stand tough and unwavered in the face of adversities and also enjoy longevity. All of this is rooted in consistency - the determination to remain disciplined.

Often, we hear of people beating chronic ailments. I have seen miraculous cases where a person reversed diabetes, walked again after being paralysed and even beating advanced cancer. All such people have few things in common, one of them being determination.

Several of my students know the nuances and intricacies of the body so well that they could alleviate some of their health issues just by carrying out simple tweaks in their lifestyle and diet. A thirty-one-year-old young woman first got associated with me when she was around twenty-four years old and was starting her career in journalism. The odd work hours of the media industry, acute stress and some personal tensions threw her nervous system off gear due to which she suffered from one issue or the other. In a year, her body got so weak due to excessive stress and anxiety that she fell prey to infections. Back pain, poor digestion, faulty sleep routine, low immunity, and hormonal imbalances, plagued her. Today, she has learned to take care of her body and stress through yogic therapy and Ayurveda. Treating ailments through medicines is one route, understanding your body, the root cause of various issues and nipping them in the bud is another.

When some women begin to get excessive facial hair after a certain age, they simply see a dermatologist and get some hair removal treatment. Such treatments are fine, but don't you think it is important to find out the reason behind such imbalances in the first place? If a river runs dry, would you try to find the cause and correct it or get gallons of water to create an artificial stream in its place? Again, determination and willpower are required if one wants to go to the depth of the issue and resolve it through Ayurveda and yogic therapy.

Medicines promise instant relief, not necessarily long-lasting. After a certain number of sessions of hair removal treatment, smooth skin is not still not certain and one may have to spend more time and money on subsequent sessions. However, I do guarantee that once a person turns to yogic therapy and Ayurveda, and practices discipline, a long-lasting and permanent resolution to most issues is certain. However, it does take time, patience, determination and consistency.

I'd like to end by sharing a million dollar thought, after reading this, go back and think what is better and would bear fruit - trying 100% thrice a month then again after a gap of two months or trying one percent every single day for 365 days? The first approach may or may not bear the result but trying one percent every day is certain to make you better by over 300% in a year. This is the power of determination and consistency - a formula that can be applied to better almost anything, from relationships, health and fitness to skills.
