Does Turtle Breathing Technique Increase Lifespan?

It is said that the rate of breath determines the lifespan. However, Indian sages may not have counted the breaths of turtles. Perhaps they did not emphasize how many breaths a turtle takes in one minute.

Their study may have focused on the turtle's inherent calm nature. They may have emphasized the level of self-control in its senses and how much patience it has in its movements.

Indian sages always worked based on nature, and the civilization gave the utmost respect and honour to those who have self-control in their senses, be it a king, a commoner, or any living being. Therefore, the turtle was given the status of Lord Vishnu's avatar. It is seen as the caretaker of the world.

Patience is the most important virtue in a caretaker. They cannot afford to make mistakes. Their senses are so deep and calm that they cannot harm anyone.

Scientifically, it is also true that the organism which has the art of calming its own senses has a very low breathing rate per minute. The turtle is capable of this because its senses and movements are very calm, and there is no sign of restlessness in it. It is said that the breathing rate per minute is only 3, while that of a rabbit is over 40. From a scientific point of view, it is known that the heart rate of the organism with a very high breathing rate is also very high, and all its organs tire quickly. Such organisms are always hyperactive due to being hyper, and the lifespan of hyperactive organisms is therefore very low. However, in organisms where the breathing rate is very low, such as turtles and elephants, their senses appear more satisfied and their hearts do not need to work more than necessary. Therefore, their lifespan has been seen to be longer.

Based on this, the sages developed the practice of Pranayama. They emphasized the control of the heart rate through Pranayama, which prevents the mind from becoming overly active and restless. Typically, in humans, the mind tends to be more active, which causes an increase in heart rate and respiration. However, the practice of Pranayama helps to control the fluctuations of the mind, leading to a more stable heart rate and respiration.
