Depression is a common mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest in activities that one used to enjoy. Along with emotional symptoms, depression can also cause physical symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, and body aches.
One of the most common physical symptoms of depression is calf muscle pain. This type of pain is often vague and can be felt at any time of the day. However, it is most commonly felt at night and affects both legs for some people or only the left leg for a few. The exact cause of calf muscle pain in people with depression is not entirely clear, but it is believed to be related to changes in the nervous system and muscle tension.
Along with calf muscle pain, people with depression may also experience restless leg syndrome, a condition characterised by an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, usually accompanied by uncomfortable sensations. Restless leg syndrome is often considered a manifestation of depression as it is a way to divert attention from the hyperactive mind and rein in thoughts.
To get rid of it, one must start working on the calf muscles. Some methods that can help include:
Pumping the calf muscles.
Stretching the calf muscles.
Stretching the calf muscles along with reverse blood circulation.
Walking on toes for at least 10 to 15 minutes daily.
Moving your legs on wall, which can also help calm the brain and reduce the urge to keep doing it.
Getting a calf muscle massage before sleep at bed.
