Constipation;The Cure by Pranayama

Constipation: The Solution Through Pranayama

I have been repeatedly stressing the fact that excessive stress always impacts the intestines and digestive health. In fact, it goes the other way round too, excessive tension in the digestive system leads to stress. I cannot emphasise the significance of pranayama in maintaining good digestive, mental and overall health.

If the intestines have enough flora and fauna, that is moisture, hydration and prana, issues such as constipation cannot arise. Hyperactivity and aggressive pranayama techniques such as Kapalbhati and Agnisar kriya do not help a lot in curing constipation. There is a popular misconception that to resolve constipation, heat should be created in the intestines. This is not entirely beneficial, it may induce loose motion and may also hamper nutrient absorption.

In order to alleviate the troubles tied to the intestine, the brain and the lumbar area of the spine needs to be relaxed. The effect of tension and stress impacts the waist and associated areas due to which there is inactivity in the intestines. Due to the weakening of the lumbar region, the brain becomes almost unable to send messages to the intestines and constipation occurs.

In such a scenario, only those pranayama techniques must be practised which relax the mind and strengthen the spine without producing heat in the intestines. If you look carefully, then aggressive medicines and antibiotics are used to clean the intestines, even in Ayurveda, such herbs are used so that the heat inside the intestines can increase and cleanliness can be done. In Pranayama science also, to clean the intestines, such pranayama is practised that may generate heat like Kapalbhati and Agnisara Kariya etc.

I always prescribe pranayama which may relax the mind and infuse more oxygen and blood flow in the lower part of the body. The brain must be free from thoughts at the night before sleeping and after waking up. The more the brain becomes ideologically calm at night and as soon as you wake up in the morning, the more it will start directing the intestines well. Right from falling asleep to waking up, the chatter of the mind goes on due to which the mind is not able to give signals to the intestines properly.

I am sharing some vital tips:

  • After 8 o'clock at night, the use of the eyes, tongue and jaw should be the least.

  • No screen should be seen at night after meals.

  • Pranayama, in the form of abdominal breathing, is a must before sleeping

Abdominal Breathing

Lie down in one place, relax and relax the forehead completely while relaxing the five senses. There should be no haste, due to the haste, there is a stretch in the anus along with the stomach automatically. Don't do it if you are short of time.

Now feeling the breath very slowly, take it straight inside the stomach, and inflate the whole stomach so much that no tension comes on the face. Hold the breath for 2 to 3 seconds and then exhale without any effort, taking care not to squeeze the stomach while exhaling. Do it in the normal state in which the stomach was. While taking the breath in, try with experience and while exhaling feel without effort, with relaxation.

Note that in constipation, the patient naturally almost forgets to relax.

That is why while exhaling, do not try and do not contract the stomach.

This action should be done daily for at least 11 to 21 minutes, but if you try to do it under the protection of a guru, it will be very beneficial.
