Beyond Happiness & Sorrow

Beyond Happiness & Sorrow

People often think that if they have a home, they will be happy; if they get married, they will be happy; if they have children, they will be happy, especially if they have a son, as he will carry on the family name. Some people connect this idea with earning money, thinking that if they earn enough, they will have simplicity and ease, and so on.

The meaning of this is that if a certain task is completed, then their life will be happy and peaceful. However, if we deeply consider this kind of mentality, we will realize that people with this mindset can never be truly happy and peaceful. I have seen many of them who are always unhappy.

They only imagine the happiness that they will receive in the future, but they never get anything in the present. The truth is that they are not happy at present, and so they imagine being happy in the future.

Although there is nothing wrong with dreaming of future happiness, if we delve deeper into it, we will experience more sorrow. There is no guarantee that what they are hoping for  will come to fruition.

It can be understood better with an example - a common person hopes for ultimate happiness after getting married and finding a job. He feels that his life will be complete and he will be free from all mental and financial difficulties. But has anyone actually achieved this in reality? He doesn't know about the side effects of both job and marriage. He tries to be happy by just imagining it, even though he is far from the truth.

After getting married and finding a job, people often criticize their spouse to their friends, and criticize the government in their job.The truth is that happiness and sadness go hand in hand in every moment of life. But the mind always wants to be happy and peaceful every moment. He wants to never experience any kind of pain.

Is it possible?

It is important to note that circumstances, whether happy or sad, will always come and go. This is because circumstances are ever-changing. If the circumstances change in mental life as well, then he or she will continue to experience the ups and downs of joy and sorrow. However, if the mind is trained well enough to remain stable, then it will not become happy or sad with changing circumstances. It can remain peaceful and stable.

For this, it is necessary to train one's own mind well.

  • For example, learn to relax and close your senses. Daily meditation is necessary for this. Do not look at any kind of screen after 8 pm at night. This will prevent exhaustion in the senses and they will become relaxed. This will keep the mind from getting agitated.

  • Before sleeping, it is essential to practice pranayama and meditation. This helps to calm the unnecessary thoughts in the mind. When unwanted thoughts continuously enter the subconscious mind, it can lead to a polluted mind. Therefore, one should try to calm their thoughts and relax their senses before sleeping. This will help the mind to face both joy and sorrow and become capable of dealing with them.

  • Doing physical exercise in the morning is mandatory in my daily routine. It is necessary to control the mind's influence on the body. If a person is satisfied and content with their own body and senses, then they are neither too happy nor too unhappy with external circumstances. Note that a person can have more control over their own body, senses, and mind than on external circumstances. When a person is happy with themselves, they are almost unaffected by external situations.

  • A person should focus on their own behavior and strive to improve it. To do this, one should contact a guru and discuss how to control their own mind and behavior.
