Awake While Sleeping !

8 months ago By Yogi Anoop

Awake While Sleeping (Dreaming) and Asleep While Awake (Yawning)

Awake while sleeping (dreaming) and asleep while awake (yawning). This has now become a habit. When I wake up in the morning, it doesn’t feel like I’ve slept. I have no recollection of leaving everything behind in sleep. It seems like this has become my fate.

It’s more accurate to say that I wake up without having really slept. Before getting up, I don’t feel like rising, and there’s a constant urge to stay in bed for a while, tossing and turning. Somehow, I force myself to get up and start sending sacred messages like "Good Morning," "Radhe-Radhe," "Ram-Ram," and "Jai Ho Lakshmi Ji" to my loved ones who are already awake like me. This feels immensely gratifying.

I compensate for the lack of sleep with these messages and good wishes. My inner self desires to assert my existence in this world by sending these messages daily on WhatsApp, to let everyone know that I am alive and happy. Saying “I am alive” every morning doesn’t seem appropriate, so I send good wishes instead. I know no one follows these good wishes, but they do remember me through them. All those like me, who spread sanctity through WhatsApp, haven't really slept and are now promoting a path to heaven for peace.

Now, it’s time for a bath, but I can't tolerate wasting time. So, I chant some mantras during my bath to make up for not connecting with the Supreme Soul at night. After all, I have to stick to my routine. Like chanting mantras while bathing instead of focusing on the bath, just as I am awake while sleeping and asleep while awake. Like playing solitaire on the computer while sitting in the office. We have perfected the habit of not doing what we are supposed to do at a given time. Instead of focusing on the task at hand, we engage in something else—like watching our mobile phones while sitting on the toilet. What an irony!

Finally, it’s time to gulp down the morning meal. Here too, the same habit persists—while doing one task, my mind is constantly contemplating another. During meals, instead of wasting time, I indulge in thoughts about office work, which feels quite productive.

Ultimately, the same routine continues at the office, where yawns start attacking me, and waves of sleepiness begin to overwhelm me. After all, it has become a habit to think about other tasks while doing one. That’s why the mind keeps me awake while sleeping and makes me sleep while awake.

The truth is, I never practiced sleeping before sleep and never practiced being awake while awake. The problems arising from this will be discussed philosophically, experientially, and practically. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on how to practice mindfulness and proper rest.
